Ann's Nails

I walked in for a manicure and pedicure and was seated fairly quickly, which I appreciated. A tub liner was used, which is always a plus. That said, the pedicure experience was mixed. During the service, something appears to have been cut too far or too deep—my big toe was sore for several days afterward, and I noticed a dark spot along the edge that looks like healed damage. Additionally, only a base coat was applied to my toes; a top coat should have been included. The manicure itself went fine overall, but there were noticeable shortcomings. The cuticle work could have been more thorough, as dead skin was left behind. I asked for a very basic nail design and was initially told they don’t do designs, which I found odd given what I saw online. After I mentioned the photos and reviews and said I didn’t mind waiting, there was a brief discussion among staff (about 3–4 minutes), and they agreed to do it. I appreciated that accommodation. However, the execution of the design was disappointing. Based on the designs shown online, someone in the shop clearly had the skill to do better. What I received felt rushed—more like a few quick lines just to move on, rather than a thoughtful or clean freestyle interpretation. After the service, I wasn’t offered cuticle oil or hand lotion; I had to ask for oil and ended up moisturizing my hands myself in the car. I also noticed that I wasn’t asked to wash my hands before the base coat, even though I later saw several other clients being directed to do so. The biggest issue is durability. The gel chipped within one day, and by day three it’s clear the set won’t last anywhere near the expected two weeks. At this point, I’ll need to remove it within the week. I still tipped for the service, but I won’t be returning. I can’t help but feel that being a masculine-presenting man may have influenced the level of care and attention I received, particularly when compared to others in the shop.

Edit: I went back and it was as bad if not worse. 6 nails have chipped between saturday and Tuesday. The same person did the redo. Argued that I got the right nail color the first time after I had already gotten the wrong one twice. I found the one I had requested the first time by running around the salon myself. She used the machine to file my fragile, natural nails and still had to use a chemical remover and more of the machine to remove the already chipping paint. Painted my fingers and cuticles so this definitely won't last two weeks. Had to fix and finish with another top coat and cure at home. To top if off, never apologized for the extra visit and time spent. Won't waste money here again. Spent almost $80 before tip on a regular, zero frills, pedicure and a gel manicure and before the end of the day two nails were chipped. Didn't last 6 hours and I didn't do dishes, gardening, or any other manual work. Unfortunately, they are closed today but I'll be going back tomorrow to get this fixed.

I’ve been going to the same nail place for over 20 years and I decided to try Anns Nails because my daughter lives there and my other daughter goes there. I can’t tell you how pleasantly surprised I was. Their service is exceptional. Everyone is super nice. The prices are perfect and the work is amazing. My personal preference is Danny, but I can tell you anybody there will do an amazing job.

The people are nice enough. However, I got a manicure. My nails were cut way down and the file is crooked and misshapened. I mentioned several times that I have a newborn at home so I don’t need my edges sharp. I have to go home and file the edges. I’m far from satisfied.

After a horrible experience at another nail salon in the area, Ann’s nails was recommended to me. Danny slayed my nails!! I am trying out different salons and different sets for my wedding nails in December and I will definitely be returning! Danny was patient, kind, conversational, and at each step in the process, stopped and allowed me to make sure everything was just the way that I wanted it to be. It’s absolutely worth the short drive to come here and it a much-needed change in scenery from the other UVA nail salons I’ve been to. Undoubtedly the best salon in the area. Thanks again Danny!
