Selah Salon and Spa

I had Renae cut my hair in early July and it was ok and mostly how I wanted it cut. It wasn’t perfect but I have very thick hair, so sometimes it takes a new stylist a second time to get it cut even better. It was cut a bit short so I waited 4 months to schedule the next appointment so I could gain a couple inches on the length. I had Renae cut it again in early November and explained to her what I wanted. She cut it very short in the back, and left the sides and front longer hanging in my face. I asked her to frame the front around my face and cut side swept bangs to blend in with the sides. My hair is too heavy to just hang with no shape. Anyway the cut ended up being uneven, choppy, too bulky in some spots, flipping up in some areas, and the front and back just didn’t blend in. I waited a week to see if I could figure out how to style it and try and deal with it until I found someone else to cut it in a couple months. It was driving me crazy so I booked a follow up appointment to have Renae fix it. That cut went from bad to worse. Now my hair is much shorter than even the first haircut in July, still flipping up in some areas, choppy and just doesn’t look good. To make matters worse, the second haircut in November to fix the first November haircut was 3 days before Thanksgiving, the first available day Renae could fit me in. So I went to visit with family that I haven’t seen in a long time feeling very self conscious about how my hair looked. I tried to laugh it off when some of them said, wow I’ve never seen your hair so short. It was really embarrassing. When I called to get my first haircut fixed, I suggested that if Renae was not comfortable with re-cutting my hair correctly, could I have someone else fix it or get a refund so I could go somewhere else. Instead they scheduled me with Renae again. Now I have to wait months for this awful cut to grow out enough so I can get it trimmed and look better, not to mention going to more holiday get togethers in the next month feeling self conscious.

Edit, below is my old review. But I will also add they did go above and beyond by reaching out to me to offer to fix my hair at no extra charge. Some of the people there are good but they also employ some people who are a bit inexperienced. Got a haircut with Laura and it was great. I went with someone else recently and my bangs are crooked. The left side of my bangs are shorter than the right and the side of my head on the left has a line. Overall, yes they have some really good people. But they also seem to have low hiring standards

I booked a foil, haircut, and Malibu treatment using the salon’s online system. A few days later, I received a voicemail from the owner saying the appointment “didn’t make any sense” and asking me to call back. I did, but was told she wouldn’t be available until Monday. As a new client, the tone of the message was off-putting and made me feel like I had done something wrong, even though I simply used the booking system provided. It didn’t feel welcoming or professional, so I decided to cancel my appointment and will be looking elsewhere. I hope the salon reconsiders how it communicates with clients going forward.

Selah Salon is an excellent place to go for quality hair services and a great experience. I have had Kami do my hair for over 20 years. She is so talented in her work. She is always ready to achieve the look I’m hoping for. She is continuously learning the most up to date hair techniques and I’m always blown away by her execution. She has highlighted my hair blonde for years and my last appointment I wanted to try going more my natural color, dark brown. I knew she would do a beautiful job and she did. I told her, “I trust you, do whatever you think will look the best.” She suggested leaving some blonde highlights to frame my face so I wouldn’t feel too dark. It was exactly what I was thinking and her professional suggestions made all the difference in how I felt about the end result. Also, I notice the products that she uses do not damage my hair like other salons do. I can’t recommend her enough. She is kind, takes interest in her clients and makes an effort to really know you. You will love her and your hair. It will be like seeing your girlfriend and getting beautiful all in one place.

(late writing a review) Renae is my girl. I first found her after failed trips to a few known salons in the area that butchered my hair. She helped me transition from years of box red, has helped frame my double chinned round face with perfect inverted bobs, and she's just all around a hoot to visit. She did my highlights for my wedding and to show how amazing she is, the photo where I'm in green is where the highlights grew out sooo beautifully, looking like they were purposely balayaged. (I'm trying to go back to my natural color, so her magical mixing has been amazing for me.) Shout out to Selah Salon and Renae for helping a girl feel her best. Oh and they have Aveda products too, added bonus!
