DESSANGE Paris Salon

I hesitated for several month to share this review and photos because I want to support small businesses, but my unfortunate experience at Dessange hasn't sat well with me. I had previously been a satisfied client of Franck, who typically did my balayage. However, after a mix-up with an appointment, Franck was unavailable, and Mano, another stylist, offered to color my hair. I informed Mano that I usually get a balayage, but he disregarded my preference. Mano gave me chunky, mismatched colored highlights. I’ve had my my hair colored for nearly 20 years and have never seen a stylist work so quickly or carelessly. As Magda blow-dried my hair, it became clear that the color was off. I know that lightening dark roots can sometimes result in a slightly jarring color, this was beyond that— my hair color was mismatched bright yellow and silver hues. After getting home, my concerns were confirmed by my own observations and several comments from others. I reached out to James at Dessange to set up a color correction appointment with Franck but was informed that Mano wanted to do the correction himself. I agreed, hoping the initial result was just a bad day and thought it best to address my concerns directly with him. However, during the appointment, Mano took no accountability, instead blamed me for not sitting far enough back under the hair processor. He didn’t apologize for the inconvenience or for the damage done. Despite explaining again that I preferred a balayage to minimize the damage, he ignored my concerns. After Mano’s “correction,” my hair still looked terrible, as shown in the first attached — yes, the photo was taken the day after my color “correction." I attempted to contact a manager for a refund or further help to repair my hair, but James rudely suggested I try another salon, stating that the color I wanted was unrealistic. I was never refunded. Worse yet, several days after Mano’s “correction,” the top layer of my hair began breaking, leaving me with uneven and severely damaged hair. Thankfully, the stylists at Salon 180 in D.C. corrected the color and provide guidance on how to repair the damage. They were also shocked by my hair's condition and color. Mano and James were both incredibly rude and arrogant throughout the process. I feel compelled to warn others about the poor service I received. Management's handling of the situation was appalling for a salon where people spend significant time and money. Proceed with caution if you consider visiting.

I’ve been a loyal client of Jacques Dessange in Chevy Chase, but unfortunately, I recently had another deeply disappointing experience — my second major hair disaster with the same stylist, Magda. This time, my hair was left completely burned out, brassy, and orange. It was dry, frizzy, and far from what I had asked for. Even worse, there was no apology or accountability taken for the damage by this Magda who , by the way, also likes to call names to her clients… Thankfully, the rest of the team truly stepped up. The entire salon collaborated to help repair the mistake as best as possible. I especially want to thank **Fatia**, whose professionalism, care, and expertise were absolutely exceptional. Fatia and the rest of the team showed compassion and skill during a stressful experience. My sincere recommendation: **avoid Magda at all costs.** She does not listen to clients’ preferences and seems to impose her own style ideals rather than achieving what the client requests. **Kudos to the rest of the Jacques Dessange team** for their professionalism and teamwork — they turned a disaster into a recovery effort with grace and professionalism. I will still like to return to Jacques Dessange. Team highly educated and professional. Color has more light but still frizzy… I will have to cut it. Damage was done, again Thanks for the team, especially Fatia, whom I will like to strongly recommend as a stylist and well, think it twice before going to Magda, she is rude as cn be and demonstrates a total lack of professional standards

Amazing job Jerome! I have a receding hairline so it's difficult for a stylist to make it "look good". Jerome evaluated the situation, suggested, and executed a marvelous hairstyle!

As a regular client of DESSANGE rue des Saints-Pères in Paris, I expected the same high standard at Chevy Chase. I came in hoping for a flattering cut but received little guidance. I requested a natural dry since my hair curls slightly, but the stylist insisted on a blowout. I didn’t realize the front layers were too long until I washed and styled it naturally at home. I returned the next day, politely asking for a quick adjustment. Not only did the stylist refuse, but he responded in a defensive, dismissive tone, saying, “I spent time with you and listened,” before walking away. This lack of flexibility and poor attitude felt unprofessional and disappointing especially for a first-time client at a salon that presents itself as high-end.

The true measure of a hairdresser's expertise does not count as much upon receiving a fresh haircut. Rather, it is 4, 6, or 8 weeks later, when the cut demonstrates its precision by growing out with a resilient structure and maintaining an envisioned overall appearance. Jerome has been my hairdresser for more than 15 years. He is a magician, especially for short cuts. He does not just cut hair: he creates style and presence.
