Kendra’s Spa & Salon | Nail Salon

I just found this little gem and am beyond wowed. From the beautiful, elegant and serene store front and interior, the outstanding customer service and highly skilled, welcoming and talented staff, long and perfect foot and leg massage, you can’t go wrong. The owner, Kendra, couldn’t be sweeter. Come her once and you’ll be hooked. This is literally the best spa I’ve ever been to.

This was my first experience getting a manicure + acrylics, and Kendra’s Spa was presented as the best option in downtown Menlo Park based on reviews. Pros: 1. I was able to quickly book an appointment within the hour over the phone with Kendra for my initial appointment. 2. Walk-ins are quickly accommodated (also a con, as my tech went to start another appointment before completing my service, ex. removing excess polymer from under my nails). 3. The techs are friendly and every patron is greeted by name. Cons: 1. Tools are not single use or seem to be sterilized when multi use, instead they and kept in caddies/ e-file bits are in recycled mint tins. 2. My nails were kept as is prior to adhering the nail form when getting the acrylics; there was no cuticle or nail prep in terms of trimming my nails. As a result, there was a noticeable gap between the cuticle and the base of the acrylic nails (see attached photo). 3. I asked for a short round length and instead was given a medium almond after being assured that the length would be shortened to what I requested via filing them down later in the process. 4. The acrylic removal process was incredibly damaging to my nails, as rings of fire can be seen on a few of my nails, internal bleeding in my right pinky finger, and the integrity of the nails themselves became soft and bent when pressed rather than retaining rigidity (see attached photos for nail health before and after). The tech also attempted to remove acrylics by prying them off using a nail form after acetone soaking. This may be a combination of the e-filing and soaking my nails in a bowl of acetone. It has been a few days since the removal, and there are some cracks forming in the middle of the nail beds, and my nails are sensitive even to warm water. 5. Nail dust was not properly cleaned during the acrylic removal process, and was left to accumulate on the table and on my hands, then massaged into my skin in the final oil massage. 6. I was charged $55 for the removal: full set removal is stated as $25, and gel removal is $15, so I am unsure how $55 was calculated. TLDR: I wanted to experience what the other 5 star reviewers had, but the congenial atmosphere was not enough to reconcile the subpar quality I was given.

The staff is super friendly and really knows what they’re doing. My manicure was perfect, and the foot massage was next-level amazing. Kendra is so kind and makes you feel totally at home.

Had a wonderful first visit at Kendra’s today! Halla and Tam took great care of me, and I’m already looking forward to going back again soon.
