My concern is the liquid the tech chose to pair with it, which behaved exactly like MMA during removal — harsh smell, gummy breakdown, and clear damage to my natural nails. This is an issue of unethical salon practices, not the brand. As an educator, I speak up because clients deserve transparency, proper product use, and safe services. I also know of that brand and I also know that whenever you mix a liquid with any powder, the chemical action that takes place is polymerization, which makes it acrylic.. The point is I asked for gel not acrylic ✅ How it’s actually applied LeChat’s Gelee Powder system is not acrylic and does not use EMA or MMA monomer. Instead, it uses: 1. Unfortunately, my experience at Pro Nails, Brow + Lash Salon was deeply disappointing and extremely concerning from a professional and safety standpoint. When I sat down, I clearly requested a gel overlay or gel polish. The young lady who did my pedicure was preparing to do my manicure as well. As soon as I repeated that I wanted gel, she called the owner over. The owner then picked up a container of monomer and a container of polymer—traditional acrylic products—and attempted to apply them to my nails while insisting it was “gel.” One of the operators even asked me where I was from because I was asking questions they knew I was not from South Carolina. As a licensed cosmetologist and cosmetology instructor with over 30 years of experience, I immediately stopped her. There is no such thing as “gel powder.” Gel is a UV/LED-curing product, not a powder-and-liquid system. When I asked what liquid she was using, she claimed it was EMA. I knew this was not truthful, but because I was in town for a family event, I allowed the service to continue. However, the truth revealed itself during removal. Two weeks later, when I began taking the product off, it became obvious she had used MMA (methyl methacrylate)—a banned, unsafe, and illegal substance in the United States for nail services. MMA is not soak-off, turns gummy/tacky when filed, must be drilled aggressively, and is a known carcinogen. MMA is extremely cheap (often under $20 per gallon), which is why unethical salons sometimes use it instead of legally approved EMA, which is much more expensive. The fact that the owner looked me in my face and lied about the products being used is unacceptable, unprofessional, and dangerous. My family members and other clients—especially in the Black community—deserve honest, safe, and legally compliant services. No one should be exposed to harmful chemicals to save a few dollars in product cost. I will be reporting this salon to the State Board of Cosmetology because the use of MMA and the misrepresentation of products is a serious violation that puts the public at risk. I am extremely upset by this experience and want others to be fully aware before choosing to visit this establishment. Safety is non-negotiable, and transparency is the minimum standard a salon should provide. PLEASE google the difference between MMA and EMA and the dangers of it also, there is a multitude of videos on YouTube. People please do your research and ask questions in these nail salons because they could be jeopardizing your health and they should know and do Better if they are licensed By the state of South Carolina. All license should be visible and posted for the public view. just to reinstate the point that I was aware that they were putting acrylic on my nails and deceiving me, but I knew I could soak it off and I was told that it was not MMA and that’s where and why I’m so upset the owner lied directly in my face and it’s against the law to not disclose the chemicals that you are using on people. It was my choice to get my nails done, but I did not want MMA on my nails.

I recently got a full set with a design at Pro Nails, and I have to shout out Mary—she is the GOAT! I showed her a picture of the design I wanted, and she completely understood the assignment.
