The Common Man Inn & Spa

Hosted a large birthday party for a relative in an event room. Reservation process, staff, ambiance, and quality was top notch. Wonderful service and everyone raved about how great the food was. Staying overnight at the hotel, I noticed how incredibly fast the service was. Many times, too fast as though they were trying to get as much done as possible at times passing by too quickly to seem to care. But overall, I realized I never had to wait for a server or checking in on our table during the event of Fosters bar afterward. So, super good quality and super fast service but watch out to the staff, stop a couple seconds to say hi or how are you doing would go a very long way.

The inn is a cute place. The amenities and inn itself were nice and the free breakfast was great. Depending on when you are there, rates get very high in the popular times, more so than we think it is worth. The beds could be more comfortable and the room was a bit musty. We had friends in a different room that was much nicer so it might be hit or miss. They host a lot of weddings and the rooms are not very sound proof if your neighbors are partying. Overall we had a nice weekend!

Everything about our experience with The Common Man was mediocre at best. I am only giving two stars as the staff was pleasant. Be warned the Lodge pictures advertised on the website did not resemble the room we received. The room was dated, had carpeting, was dusty, had damage to the walls and had mysterious staining on the bedding (gross). The bedding was a thin blanket which was odd considering most hotels use comforters w/ a duvet. Walls were paper thin and poor window treatments that allowed light in from the parking lot. The beds and pillows were so uncomfortable, I have never left a hotel room with worse sleep than I did here. I will also note the continental breakfast was nothing exceptional and had no hot items available besides microwaveable waffles. It honestly felt like a low budget motel at a 4/5 star price. We then chose to eat at The Italian Farmhouse which was less than impressive and the portion sizes were absolutely wasteful. My sister’s plate was a full box worth of pasta and both dishes were lacking any flavor. It also took forever for them to get food out to guests and ours wasn’t even hot arriving at the table. We then had pedicures booked for Sunday and were later informed in advance of our arrival there was only one nail tech. Fine no problem we were happy to accommodate. We then got them done simultaneously instead of individually. Which I thought to be odd as we technically were booked for a two and a half hour window. As someone who has received many pedicures in my lifetime this was far from a spa experience. It felt rushed and was nothing particularly relaxing. A base layer of nail polish wasn’t applied prior to polish and absolutely no massage just application of lotion. Let’s be real the massage is the best part and you would expect that would be a highlight in a spa setting. I honestly have received better pedicures from your average strip mall nail salon. Save your money and go somewhere else. Overall the trip was less than what I expected it to be for the over $500 (w/tips) I spent with your establishments in under 24 hours. The Commons Mans reputation isn’t what it once was and that is disappointing.

We always LOVE this place! Just one thing. The shower/bathtubs NEED hand holds in the shower for physically challenged patrons. My wife has Parkinson's and was rather uncomfortable with the lack of safety handles. Just a note. Everything else is perfect!

We only went to the spa, not the inn. My husband and I got a couples massage before a wedding at Barn on the Pemi. The massage schedule was not available until 2 months before. I had to call a few times to change appointment times and the staff on the phone were helpful and accommodating. A light lunch would have been available to order in advance, but we did need it. Staff in person at the spa were welcoming and informative. I was aware there was a hot tub so we planned to do that to relax before massage. I did not know it would be so beautiful with a rock face and adjustable waterfalls! Truly a unique and pleasant experience. There was also a pool we did not use. The wedding bridal party was also getting ready at the spa (hair and makeup), so it was fun to hang out with the girls in the changing area (labeled men and women's "Mandara"). This room is adjacent to the couples massage room. We could hear a lot of laughter during our massage but did not mind since we knew them. This could have been distracting otherwise. The Alexa music also shut off at one point and there was some difficulty getting it started again ("there is no spa playlist available"!). My husband enjoyed his massage with Colleen. Mine with Kathy was adequate but nothing special. I found the table to be a bit firm. When we discussed the intake form, I indicated that head/neck/shoulders were my main areas of focus. But she only touched my neck below my ears - nothing on my head or face. I had mentioned to avoid one big toe due to injury, but she also did not touch any of my other toes, or fingers. I have massages frequently and these areas have always been included unless asked to avoid. So unfortunately in the end I left still feeling quite a bit of tension.
