Galaxy Nails Iowa City

I’ve been going to galaxy for about 6 months. I’m a mom, I work with my hands, so I’m pretty rough on my nails sometimes. I usually ask for them to make them a little extra strong, but there’s really only one tech there who can both make them look good and also make them last two weeks. Last time I went, I specifically made an appointment with that tech. Today when I showed up, he was finishing up with another client, and I was given a different tech. I didn’t want to make a fuss, so I didn’t say anything about it. I usually just get a solid color, but this time, I had some photos of a design style I liked that I was thinking about getting. I showed my tech, and the owner, and they were telling me it was really complicated. I said it didn’t have to be that detailed, I just liked the style of it, but they kept making a big deal about it and told me they didn’t really have the materials necessary to do it. Eventually they said it would cost $105 and take an extra hour. That’s about what I’d planned to spend, but I hadn’t been thinking about the extra time. I’d told my husband I’d be home asap so he could watch the Iowa/Iowa State game. I decided since they didn’t have the stuff to make it look the way I wanted anyway, and they’d made me feel like it was going to be a big inconvenience, I said I’d just do a solid color with some chrome on top. My tech made a point to tell every other employee and customer that I had declined the service because it “was too expensive for me”. By the fourth time I heard her tell someone I’d decided not to do it because it was too expensive, I finally told her it was really just because I didn’t have the time. She then loudly whispered to the other employee that it was really just too expensive. She was asking about my family and making a point to tell me she knows how expensive kids can be, asking me if I cut my own hair, just spent the whole hour trying to make weird financial digs. This is what I left with. I don’t know if she intentionally made them this sloppy or not but I’m definitely glad I didn’t try to get anything more complex.

Definitely recommend. I came in for an acrylic fill and was seated immediately. The nail tech checked in frequently to make sure I was happy with the length, shape, and color before proceeding to the next step. The appointment was quick, about 40 minutes. I’m extremely happy with the result

Galaxy nails experience was overall a hit or a miss. I came in around 6:40pm yesterday. I got my toes done which was done by a young male and he did a good job even when I smudged my toe polish on accident he corrected it and was very nice about it .But the nails was a miss for sure on the manicure Acrylic gel powder set which I was pressured , bullied ,and persuaded into getting which I didn’t want. I wanted a French tip acrylic set. I don’t know that much about nails mind you but when asked by myself Staff barely explained they stated the set I wanted was $60.00 which was just regular paint coat which I stated I wanted but Staff stated they didn’t do a pink polish for regular french tip set the older female that was doing my nails was very persistent with Telling me that if I get gel powdered it will lost longer and it’s $65.00 and she said not “big of difference “when she said that comment she made face expressions and comments that I didn’t understand so i said fine okay due to the vibe she was giving me . I’m not a confrontational argumentative person plus I’m pregnant so by that time I was just ready to go she also didn’t do a good paint job on my nails I asked if she can correct one of my nails better while sculpting the white paint she made a face again and said no it’s good it’s all good I showed her what I was talking about and than she corrected it but when everything was done it still looked wonky and not sculpted she was a tad aggressive and crass with her comments so again. I didn’t want to argue ,and for my nails to be $65.00 gel powered French tip set I felt the paint job and sculpting my nails overall could have been better right along with her professionalism . My total was $106.00 and I have no problem paying for the work but when the work is not adding up to the total that’s when I have a problem . I will not be going back and wouldn’t suggest this nail parlor to be honest. I get every body experience is different but this was mine .

The staff here is incredibly friendly and professional. I’ve been coming here for years, and they always take such great care of me. My nails always last a long time, and the waxing service is amazing too!
